Assistive Technology funding
Funding for equipment that helps you stay safe, mobile and independent at home. It's part of the Assistive Technology & Home Modifications (AT-HM) scheme and is kept separate from your everyday care budget.
What it includes
- Walking frames, rollators and wheelchairs
- Shower chairs and pressure cushions
- Personal alarms
- Plus any assessment, set-up or training needed to use equipment safely
The three funding tiers
You're approved for a tier based on what your assessment shows you need. Each tier has a yearly maximum and a different level of assessment.

| Medium | $2,000 / year | More specialised items; usually needs advice or a quote |
| High | $15,000 / year | Complex or higher-cost equipment; needs a clinical assessment |
Good to know
Where your assessed needs genuinely require equipment above $15,000, more funding can be accessed with a valid prescription from a suitably qualified health professional — see Equipment above $15,000 - prescribed need below.
Assistive technology funding is generally available for 12 months and doesn't carry over.
Equipment above $15,000 — prescribed need
The high tier is nominal at $15,000. If your assessed needs genuinely call for equipment that costs more, additional funding can be accessed with a valid prescription from a suitably qualified health professional. Your care team can help you obtain and submit the prescription. This means the right equipment isn't out of reach because of the tier cap.
How it's funded
For equipment, any grandfathered HCP unspent funds are used first. Once those are used up, your Assistive Technology funding is drawn on. This makes sure older savings are used before new equipment funding. Try the funding tool →
