Insurance and document requirements

Your requirements

Select your service and business structure. We’ll show your insurance minimums and document checklist.

What's the difference between PL and PI insurance?

Public Liability (PL)

Covers: Injury to people or damage to property caused by your work.

If a client trips over your equipment, or you damage their furniture, PL covers the claim.

Every supplier needs PL. No exceptions.

Professional Indemnity (PI)

Covers: Harm caused by your professional advice, assessments, or treatment decisions.

If your treatment plan or clinical recommendation leads to harm, PI covers the claim.

Required if your work involves professional judgement. Not required for task-based services (cleaning, mowing, transport).

Do I need Workers Compensation insurance?

Workers Compensation (WorkCover)

Covers: Injury or illness sustained by your employees while working.

If one of your staff is injured while delivering services to a Trilogy Care client, Workers Compensation covers their medical costs, lost wages, and rehabilitation.

Required if you have employees. Not required for sole traders with no employees.

When is it required?

  • You employ one or more people (full-time, part-time, or casual)
  • This applies regardless of your service category
  • It is a legal requirement in all Australian states and territories

Sole traders and organisations using only independent contractors (no employees) do not need Workers Compensation.

What must your Certificate of Currency show?

Even if your coverage amount is correct, your certificate can be rejected if it’s missing details. Check these six things before uploading.

  1. 1
    Insurer name visible
Must be a recognised Australian insurer or Lloyd's syndicate.
  2. 2
Says "Public Liability" or "Professional Indemnity" explicitly
A generic "Business Insurance" certificate that doesn't break out PL/PI separately won't be accepted.
  3. 3
Coverage amount meets the minimum for your category
A $5M policy when $10M is required will be rejected. Use the tool above to confirm your minimum.
  4. 4
Your legal name and ABN match your portal registration
If you trade under a different name, the legal entity must still appear on the certificate.
  5. 5
Expiry date is in the future
Expired certificates are rejected outright. Those expiring within 14 days will be flagged.
  6. 6
Scope covers aged care / in-home services
A policy that excludes aged care or your profession won't be accepted, even if the dollar amount is right.

Most common rejection reasons: coverage too low, ABN mismatch, certificate expired, incorrect document provided (e.g. quote or invoice instead of certificate), scope excludes aged care, file is illegible or cropped.
